Golfworks is a student internship program conducted by the MGA Foundation for students interested in golf.  This program introduces students to careers within the golf industry by providing summer jobs at a local golf club.

The goals of this program:

  • for students to gain meaningful employment
  • to introduce students to alternative career choices
  • to meet positive role models and build self esteem
  • to expose students to golf, including rules and etiquette
  • to introduce golf to a new generation


  • complete a thorough an application process
  • interview with an MGA representative and the prospective golf club
  • if hired, will work on a rotating schedule providing them opportunities to work in all areas of club operation
  • work a 300-hour program from May through August
  • may be eligible for employment a second year
  • are given opportunities to learn and play the game of golf

The ideal candidate:

  • students 15-18 years old
  • minority students
  • "at-risk" students
  • Grades C+ or better
  • communication skills
  • extracurricular involvement
  • has an interest in golf
  • has access to transportation
  • has a financial need

The job:

  • includes working in pro shops, clubhouses, and on golf courses
  • lasts for a ten-week period
  • pays $7.75/hour the first year
  • pays $8.25/hour the second year
