School To Career

The Longwood Central School District School-to-Career Program is designed to provide students with opportunities to explore potential careers and gain skills that will enable them to become successful working citizens.

 

·         Job Postings

·         Assistance with resume and cover-letter writing

·         Training in interview skills, job applications, and job success

·         Assistance with the job search process

 

Also available through the School-to-Career Office are field trip opportunities that enable students to gain further knowledge about a particular career path.  Some of these past field trips include:

 

  • Shadow Day field trip for 10th graders
  • Marketing careers field trip to Macy’s, New York City
  • County Government field trip
  • Aviation careers field trip
  • East End Career Fair
  • Employment Day at Suffolk Community College

 

Finally, students can avail themselves of special programs designed to meet the needs of students interested in a variety of careers:

  • General Education Work Experience Program - This program is designed for the working student.  It combines work experience and classroom instruction on career education to help prepare youth for the world of work by strengthening their occupational and employability skills.   This program can foster further development of skills learned in occupational courses or provide job experience in unique career areas. Grade 12 only.  Working papers are required.
  • Career Exploration Internship Program - This program is designed to permit 11th or 12th grade students to develop and demonstrate their skills at a supervised worksite.   Students will learn about the world of work and career opportunities.  Students will learn firsthand about the skills and educational requirements necessary for career areas in which they believe they are interested.  Through this program, students will be able to play an integral part in designing their own high school program and in choosing courses they should take to reach their career objective.

 

 

 

The Longwood School-Business Partnership is an alliance among businesses, educators, parents, community members, and  students for the purpose of developing career awareness and preparedness to meet the demands of the 21st century.
