Dear Longwood Parents/Guardians,

As the new Principal of Longwood High School, it is my privilege to
welcome you to the new school year!

This summer I have had the opportunity to meet and talk with many of
the people and groups that make up our large and diverse Longwood family.
As a graduate myself of Longwood High School (Class of '89), I make no
apologies for my love and commitment to this community. While sharing
with so many of these folks, it was extremely encouraging to see how
greatly shared my love and pride in Longwood is by so many. Clearly
evident is the commitment to excellence I encountered everywhere. This
excellence extends to academics, athletics, the arts, our school grounds
and facilities, and the whole Longwood community at large. I want to
assure you at the outset of this new school year, there is a team
assembled here that is determined to see, our students, provided with the
highest quality of education possible while in a safe and supportive
environment. It is our goal to see that every student is not only valued,
but "feels" valued.

In addition, our faculty, staff and administration are equally
prepared to provide not only a rigorous educational program, but a diverse
one as well. We continue to strengthen our curriculum and align our
course offerings ensuring that our students are developing the essential
skills and competencies needed for post-secondary success. Through good
organization and purposefully designed core courses and electives,
students will have the opportunity to explore and identify various college
and career pathways while they are with us. At Longwood High School you
can be sure we are preparing our students for college and/or career
readiness and success.

We have no doubt that you also desire the very best for your
student. That is why we feel it is so important that we become partners
this year to see this happen. There is overwhelming evidence that
students perform better in environments where there is effective
communication between parents/guardians and school personnel. We greatly
encourage you to reach out this year to your child's teacher, counselor or
administrator with your questions and concerns.

To further support your child’s education I encourage you join and become active in the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA). The PTSA works tirelessly to support the high school's goals of educational success for all students through fostering
strong parent, family, and community involvement. Perhaps you would
consider becoming a member of the PTSA. While we understand that all of
us have extremely full calendars these days, membership would only require
monthly meetings. These meetings provide valuable information regarding
high school programs, student events, and updates on developments within
the field of education that can really help us continue to improve our
education.

Consistent with past years and efforts to remain eco-friendly, most
school documents will be found on-line. Through the Power School Parent
Portal, you will have access to your child's attendance record, progress
reports, and quarterly grades. It is strongly recommended that you access
the portal regularly. The parent portal and other documents, including
the Code of Conduct, can be easily accessed through the District's
Homepage at http://www.longwood.k12.ny.us.

I am confident that with the collaboration of our Longwood Team, your
student, and your partnership, this school year will be a success. I look
forward to meeting you in person.

Sincerely,

Scott Schuster, Principal
